Empowering Women, Building Community: How One Reno Woman Turned Connection into a National Movement
When Hindi Marciniak moved to Reno, Nevada, she didn’t know anyone. What she did know was that she wanted to make meaningful connections — and in doing so, she sparked a movement that is transforming how women-owned businesses connect, collaborate, and thrive nationwide.
“I’ve always worked a nine-to-five,” Marciniak said. “Last year, I decided I wanted to start a little side business that had to do with parties. I went to Facebook looking for a women-owned business group here in Reno — and I couldn’t find one. So, I decided to start one.”
That simple idea turned into a powerful network. Within months, her Facebook group Reno Women-Owned Businesses exploded, growing to more than 4,000 members. What began as a casual community for like-minded women quickly evolved into a dynamic platform for referrals, mentorship, and collaboration.

I found my purpose through a combination of personal experiences, resilience, and a deep desire to create something meaningful not just for myself, but for others.., I realized my true passion wasn’t just about personal success—it was about empowering others.

I love it when my hometown garners accolades–it warms my little cockles. And Reno, the Biggest Little City, is about to showered with them. This March marks the launch of a game-changer: a national , searchable directory of women-owned businesses. It’s hard to believe something like this doesn’t already exist, but here we are.
Enter Hindi Marciniak, the creator of this groundbreaking platform. After launching the quickly thriving Reno Women Owned Business Facebook group, she realized how eager people were to discover and connect with women entrepreneurs. “Members were regulatory posting request for women-owned plumbers, electricians, marketing professionals, and more–seeking businesses they could support personally,” she said.
